How to remove hair extensions at home

Hair extensions are a great way to enhance your natural hair and give it the desired look. However, if you don’t have time to visit your salon or if there is a lockdown, consider removing the extensions at home. While we recommend that you have a professional who handles hair extension issues, such as removal processes, we consulted with several hair extension experts in-house at Mesa to safely remove hair at home without damaging it.

How to safely remove your hair extensions

Tape hair extension

Good news! Taped hair is relatively easy to remove and won’t hurt because we gently apply them to your hair. A headband is a double-sided adhesive that is attached to the hair. When inserted with tape, hair extension works by using something like double-sided tape to the top and bottom of the hair, like a sandwich. Tape extensions are typically removed and reinstalled every eight weeks. Although the tape used for hair extensions is challenging to maintain, the tape used for hair extensions is also easy to remove. The hair removal solution comprises 70% isopropyl alcohol, glycerin, and aloe vera, which can easily remove the tape from the hair. In extreme cases, rubbing alcohol may work. Another option is to use anything with softening properties to help break the tape. Once you apply the solution to your hair, you can massage or move it around until it comes loose. There may be residue after hair loss. Brush your hair gently to keep it from getting messy. A pin-tail comb is best suited for this task.

The extension of bonded tax

Binding extensions separately is increasingly popular because you can set them up any way you want. However, only experienced professionals can install and remove bond extensions, which are very challenging to break and remove. If you don’t do it well, you might mess up your hair. Keratin bonds are made up of proteins found in hair and nails. Damage to hair extension rarely occurs during keratin extension. Hair is damaged only when the keratin extension is removed. Because the hair is glued very thin, similar to microrings, we recommend waiting for a professional to remove the hair, as you will need to see your entire head throughout the process. The best thing you can do is brush your hair gently. To remove the bond, you need to push the hair away, place the solution on the bond, and use a unique tool similar to a narrow-tip plier to break the keratin bond. This is why removing keys individually is not recommended.

Cause extension

Sew extensions are performed when professionals braid hair or “sew into” braids. Suppose you only need to remove hair that is sewn together. In that case, you’ll need narrow pointed scissors, a mirror, and bobby pins to pull your hair in the opposite direction. When you brush your hair back, you must feel along the weft line or look in the mirror to see if you are cutting. Once you have removed the hair, you must find the final braid and start unbraiding.

After-sales service for all kinds of bonds

After any hair removal process, we recommend using a clarifying shampoo to wash out any remaining and excess hair. Pulling out your extensions can stress your hair, and you may lose hair naturally within a few days, especially if the extensions are not pulled out correctly. You can massage the ends of your hair with almond or olive oil to make sure your hair doesn’t split or suffer any damage.
