Now that wearing a mask has become the “new normal,” I’ve met many people complaining that there’s no need to wear lipstick or any lip color anymore.
Secondly, the lip color will transfer to your mask, smudging and making a mess.
But you know what? I still wear lip color, especially lipstick. I feel naked and unfinished without a glossy lip color, so let me tell you how I do it and the types of lip colors I choose to avoid 🙂
Wear a light lip balm or an apparent lip color
One way to make sure your lips don’t dry out under a mask and have a little color on your lips to brighten up your skin tone is to use colored lipstick.
I’ve found that colored lip balm doesn’t transfer that much on your mask, and even if it does, it doesn’t create a mess on your face when you take it off.
Colored lip balms also do double duty, protecting lips and preventing dryness. Applying a mask can dry out your lips very much, so keeping them moist is good.
My choice of colored lip balm is Chanel Pale Yellow Healthy-Gloss Lip color or Poppy Brown Extra Lip color. If you want luxury, you can buy Cle de Peau Beaute lip gloss, which is also great.
Wear matte lipstick to avoid infection
Matte lipsticks are still popular, and while I’m not a massive fan of matte lipsticks, I now understand how they work.
Matte lipsticks stick to lips more easily and transfer less. This is true when you do the coffee cup test. Matte lipsticks have fewer moisturizing ingredients, so the product won’t slide around and transfer as quickly.
Many brands of liquid matte lipsticks stick to your lips like glue. There’s almost no transfer, and the color doesn’t fade quickly.
The downside is that it will dry out your lips, which will be even drier with the mask on.
I use a matte lipstick, which I love when I want a bolder lip color. My matte lipsticks are Bobbi Brown Deluxe Matte Lipstick, Chanel Rouge Temptation Velvet, Rouge Temptation Ink, and Rouge Temptation Liquid Powder.
The problem is that matte lipstick dries out, and it’s even worse when you use it under a mask. So, it’s a challenge for me. Luckily, I don’t wear makeup very often, so it’s not something I have to deal with.
Avoid lip gloss
While I still wear strange glossy lipstick under my mask (I’m a rebel; I flirt with danger, what can I say? 😛), I’ve always avoided lip gloss because it’s too dirty.
The trick to applying a shinier or cream-colored lipstick under the mask is to ensure that the part of the mask near your lips doesn’t squeeze your lips. When using a medical mask, you can pull it slightly to ” tent” where your lips are.
Sure, you could go the easy way and not wear lip color at all 😀 but where’s the fun in doing that? 😉
Do you wear lipstick with a face mask?
When I wear makeup, I wear makeup. If I wear a disposable mask, I throw it away at the end of the day. If I wear a reusable mask, I put it in the washing machine. Either way, it doesn’t bother me as long as I don’t smear lipstick all over my face, lol! 😛 How about you?
